About
The Cutlass is the student-produced online newsmagazine of Belton High School. It is produced as a part of the established curriculum for students enrolled in Advanced Journalism under the supervision of a certified journalism educator. The Cutlass online newsmagazine replaced The Cutlass newspaper Sept. 10, 2009, which had been produced continuously since 1948 by and for the student body.
The Cutlass staff will responsibly follow rules established in the field of professional journalism to produce a timely and informative newsmagazine to reflect the stories of all students. Student journalists will adhere to ethical standards of the Society of Professional Journalists. Stories will be accurate, verified and free of libel; and all errors will be corrected.
In addtion to timely news stories, colorful feature stories and current sports stories, The Cutlass will contain editorial pieces as well as regularly appearing columns by staff members. These opinion pieces will be clearly labeled as such, and they are solely the view of the author(s) and not necessarily the view of the adviser, the faculty, the administration or Belton School District #124. Writers who offer opinion pieces will be guided by the faculty adviser to provide thoughtful, fair and accurate assertions in their stories. Stories deemed to be inflammatory or overtly offensive will not be published.
The Cutlass invites all readers to respond to any story on our site where comments are activated. Readers posting comments may not do so anonymously or under a pseudonym. All comments will be monitored by the adviser and must adhere to publications guidelines. Readers must provide their full name and a method of contact, either email or phone number, for verification purposes.
The Cutlass invites Letters to the Editor, which will be published provided that the writer provides his/her full name and method of contact. Letters may be emailed to adviser@bhscutlass.com and must adhere to all of the same standards applied to student-produced stories. They may be edited for clarity, but will not be edited for general content.
Photographs and stories presented on this site are the sole property of The Cutlass and may not be used for any other purpose without express written permission of the faculty adviser, respresenting The Cutlass.
