Honk! is the familiar children’s story of the ugly duckling that is also this year’s musical, directed by theatre teacher Tabatha Babcock. The shows take place Nov. 5, 6 and 7 at 7:00, and Nov. 8 at 2:00. Tickets are on sale at every lunch shift for six dollars in advance, seven dollars at the door.

“It’s the traditional story of the ugly duckling, told in a not-so-traditional way,” junior Kyron Woods said.

The lead role of Ugly is played by senior Dylan Corlee. Other major roles include Ida which is played by junior Andi Replogle, and Woods plays two roles, the Bullfrog and Drake.

Cast members said that they like the wacky themes of the farm animals and the outrageously funny characters that are in the musical, including the Bullfrog and Froglets, and the evil Cat. These characters bring a new life to each performance, making every one better than the last, keeping the audience laughing.

“I like that the costumes are so ‘out there’ as well as the makeup,” Replogle said. “There’s not a dull moment throughout the whole show.”

Cast and crew members said they think the show is worth seeing for adults and children alike. Children will enjoy the kid-friendly atmosphere created by the characters, while parents will enjoy the witty jokes from the stage.

Sophomore Caity Joyce said that Honk! gives a good moral to everyone, through the transformation of Ugly, who changes from an ugly “duckling” into a beautiful swan who is admired by all of the farm.

“Honk! is an inspirational tale of the ugly duckling story that gives a life lesson to anyone who watches,” Joyce said.

All members involved in the show have been working hard for a month to make the show a success. Honk! is expected to draw in a wide audience, due to the fact that musicals are only done every three years.
