Now that the wait is over for the sequel to Twilight, it’s hard to believe that any one person left the theater disappointed.
The movie starts out with a bad beginning. It’s Bella’s birthday, and Jasper tries to kill her, so in order to protect Bella, Edward dumps her.
In her heartbroken depression, she discovers that if she does stupid and reckless things she sees “illusions” of Edward. In an attempt to continue the illusions, she goes to an old family friend, Jacob Black, to help her re-build two motercycles. During the re-build, Jacob and Bella become closer than just friends. However, Bella can’t forget Edward.
One of the crazy things Bella does to get the illusions is cliff diving. Alice, Edwards sister who has visions of the future, sees her jump off the cliff and assumes she commits suicide.
Edward eventually gets wind of this and goes to the vampire coven called the Volturi to ask them to kill him. Bella and Alice go to stop him and convince him Bella is alive. There, they face the omnimous coven who are dedicated to keeping vampires a secret, and in order to make it out alive, they need to be sure Bella will join their kind eventually.
Compared to the first movie, New Moon stayed much closer to the book. With no weird additives that take away from the original storyline, the viewer gets much more out of the story. The biggest distraction was when Taylor Lautner took his shirt off. One could literally hear the intake of breath from every teenage girl in the theater.
Every fan of the book (team Jacob or Edward) should like this movie considerably more. This is not only because it stayed closer to the books, but there was also a lot more action and less cloying looks. This movie also gave more of a chance to the male crowd to get into the movieby using the werewolves to add a punch to the action sequences.
