As we take the step into the new year, we leave behind a decade filled with movies – both instant classics and movies the critics didn’t like too well. Movies like the “Lord of the Rings”  trilogy, “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Shrek” were all met by great reviews and made millions in the box office.

Millions of people worldwide have fallen in love with the magic universe of the “Harry Potter” movies and “Avatar” set a new standard for computer animated movies while many people were introduced to the 3-D effect with movies like “Ice-Age 3″ and “Avatar”.

But movie lovers have nothing to be worried about in terms of quality in the following twelve months. 2010 is most likely to be yet another successful year within the film industry.

Movie fanatics have many movies to look forward too this year, and the decade will kicked of with “Youth in Revolt” starring Michael Cera, best known from movies like “Superbad” and “Year one”. In this comedy, Cera plays a sixteen-year-old who struggles to win over the love of his life, and creates an alter ego completely different from his original self to win the girl. This offers many situations out of the ordinary, and Cera opens the new year with a movie that is easy to like. However, comedy fans have more to look forward to this year. Jim Carrey is starring in “I Love You Phillip Morris”, where he plays an inmate that finds true love with Ewan McGregor behind bars. Or what about “She’s Out of My League”, where Jay Baruchel plays an ordinary man who can’t help but wonder what he has done to deserve a girlfriend too good for him. Both of these movies are released by the end of March, but we don’t have to wait for more than a month to see Bruce Willis playing a cop looking for his valuable, lost baseball card in “Cop Out”. Also, by mid February “Valentine’s Day” will have hit the movies with an all-star cast that should be able to make it a box office success, starring Jessica Alba, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Taylor Swift and Jamie Foxx.

Action lovers are also looking at a good year. Iron Man 2 will be released in early May, and Robert Downey Jr. once again has to save the day in what is going to be the second movie in the trilogy. Soon after, the story of “Robin Hood” is to be interpreted by director Ridley Scott with Russell Crow as the hero. Crowe has to fight for the freedom of his village while winning over the heart of Lady Marion, played by Cate Blanchett. In June viewers get a joyfull reunion with some of the biggest heroes from the 80′s, “The A-Team”, with Bradley Cooper and Jessica Biel in the cast list.
2010 seems to be a good year for adventure and fantasy fans too. “Clash of the Titans” is a remake of the movie from 1981, and tells a story from Greek mythology’s world of gods. Perseus (Sam Worthington) must defeat Hades, god of the underworld, to prevent him from unleashing hell on earth. The first part of the final chapter in the “Harry Potter”series will be released in September. Daniel Radcliffe plays Harry Potter as he and the rest of his friends at Hogwarts must use what they have learned in the last few years to defeat the evil Lord Voldemort.
Eleven years of waiting is finally over for fans of Pixar Studios’ characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the other toys as they face new dangers in their third movie, “Toy Story 3″. A familiar green face also returns in July, as Shrek enters his final chapter in “Shrek Forever After”.
Overall, 2010 looks to be another successful year for movies.
