The long wait for the sequel of Bioshock has finally been was released Feb. 9 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Now, Bioshock 2 throws gamers back into the world of Rapture with a new story and a new angle. The story begins after the original Bioshock.
A new player jumping into the world of Bioshock won’t be left in the dark if they have not played the first one. Although it helps and makes things a lot more understandable, but the game is well introduced. Also, most of the radio diaries are from people and events that take place in the first game. There are even paintings throughout the game that are potraits of events from the first game, along with finding the room of Frank Fontaine with a diary that revealed the big twist from the original games ending.
The player takes the role of the old powerhouses, a Big Daddy, seperated from his little sister. In the game, there are young girls are trapped in the mayhem that has over taken the underwater city. The main points of the campaign are just like the first game. The player has similar weapons to the original, with the addition of the drill and hack gun, and can shoot plasmids or “powers” from his other hand. Players still have the option of harvesting or saving little sisters but what is new is that the player can guard the little sister as she harvest from bodies gaining the player more adam. Adam is what is collected along with money to buy more plasmids.
The biggest addition to BioShock 2 is the online multiplayer. Now the player’s adventure continues on after the campaign. The style is just like the campaign, having two weapons and two plasmids per weapon class. Players also rise in rank as they earn points by participating in games, winning games, killing enemy players and other various challenges. Ranking up unlocks more weapons, plasmids and weapon upgrades. The fast paced style takes a little getting used to but after getting the hang of it, the online is very entertaining. The only fault it that sometimes it takes a while to get a good game going.
Overall the game has one of the top campaigns and great style of gameplay. Players can make their own descisions throughout the game that affect the ending of the game. The multiplayer doesn’t match up to Modern Warfare 2, but is still good when in a full game. Gamers who liket to work for achievements or trophies are encouraged to buy this game. With enough time almost anyone can earn most of the achievements, although there are a few secret achievements and some tough ones. Everyone should play Bioshock 2 at least once in their console lifetime.
