‘The Expendables’ blows away expectations

‘The Expendables’ doesn’t live up to the hype of one of the best movies of the summer.
With the awesome cast of former action movie stars like Sylvester Stalone, Jet Li, Arnold Schwartzennger, Bruce Willis, Jason Stratham, former wrestler Steve Austin, and MMA fighter Randy Couture, and Mickie Rourke. You would expect the movie to be a blockbuster hit throughout the world.
The major thing about the cast is that most of the big names in the movie played little parts. Schwartzennger and Willis were in the movie for a grand total of five minutes then they were done. Rourke also played another minor roll in the movie and didn’t see much camera time. The only actions stars that had big roles were Sylvester Stalone, Jet Li, and Jason Stratham. Stratham started out with a big role then kind of just dropped out of the spot light and wasn’t seen much through the rest of the movie.
If you love action, blood, guns, big knives, and fighting scenes then this movie would be a must see but don’t expect much other than action. The movie was also rated “R” for very graphic images, and strong language.
The movies was jam-packed with action but the story line was a bit confusing and left you hanging at some points. It starts out with one story and then it just drops off and moves on with another.
The movie was written and produced by Sylvester Stalone who also starred in the film. Those three details are what made him famous when he wrote, produced and starred in the popular movie series Rocky. However, the best part of this movie was his action scenes and that was about it.
‘The Expendables’ team includes Leader Barney Ross (Stalone), Blades specialist Lee Christmas (Stratham), Martial Artist Ying Yang (Li), Sniper Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), Weapons specialist Hale Ceasar (Terry Crews), and Demolition Expert Toll Road (Couture)
The movie starts with the group of mercenaries, know as the Expendables, deployed to the coast of Somalia to halt pirates from executing local hostages.
The story then changes to Mr. Church (Willis) offering a mission to the leader of the expendables Barney Ross. Church wants Ross to take out the leader of the Island of Vilena General Garza (David Zayas) to overthrow the dictatorship he had formed there.
This would eventually turn into the main story line but with twists in the story. The real bad guy ended up being Ex-CIA James Munroe (Eric Robertson) who is making the people fear Garza and keep him in power.
Garza ends up becoming a “good guy” and coming to his senses during the middle of the movie and just really makes the movie hard to understand and follow.
The movie is like any other action movie. It’s about trying to save the girl but in this film it isn’t because of love it was about going back to fight for what they thought was right for the country and what she wanted.
I’d advise movie goers to wait until it comes out on DVD to see it. The movie is not really worth the money in the theatres.
