Before the third season of ‘Glee’ premiered the writers and producers announced that characters would graduate real-time. Fans show their shock and disappointment when they realise that major characters like Rachel Berry, Finn Hudson, and Kurt Hummel won’t appear next season.

Junior Chelsea Kindle said she thinks the season finale’s going to be sad this year.

“Their the ones that make the show,” Kindle said, “I don’t really want them to leave.”

Junior Zach Thomas said he disagrees with Kindle.

“I feel like it’s okay,” Thomas said, “the characters should graduate real time or else it would be very unrealistic like other shows.”

‘Glee’ creators Ian Brennan, Ryan Murphy, and Brad Falchuk started ‘The Glee Project’ a new television show where people all over the world send in tryout videos and the best ones get to be on ‘The Glee Project’. The main goal is to find new people to take over when the original cast of ‘Glee’ graduates.

‘The Glee Project’ showed a very productive first season with four winners. Winners Samuel Larson age 19 and Damian McGinty age 18 won seven episode arch’s on ‘Glee’.

McGinty made his first appearance in season three episode four which aired on Nov. 1. McGinty played a new foreign exchange student Rory Flanagan. Flanagan plays opposite Original ‘Glee’ character Brittnay who thinks Rory’s a leprechaun. Many may know McGinty from his time in ‘Celtic Thunder’.

Lindsay Pearce age 20 and Alex Newell age 18 also won ‘The Glee Project’ they both get two episode arch’s in season three.

Pearce made her first appearance on ‘Glee’ season three episode one “The Purple Piano Project” which aired Sept. 20. Pearce portrays a leader of a group of performs that want to get into the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts a very competitive that only execpts five people a year.

Pearce and her group sings and tap dances ”Anything Goes.” Pearce plays opposite Rachel Berry (Lea Michelle) and tries to make Rachel feel like she’s not good enough.

Junior Amber Kawakami said she will miss the original cast.

“It just wont really be ‘Glee’ without them,” Kawakami said.

The original ‘Glee’ cast graduating came as a shock to “Gleeks” around the world and pretty much guarantees a sad season finale. With fans upset about the possible graduation Creator Ryan Murphy said he still doesn’t know whats in store for season four and that it’s the graduating actors decision whether or not they have another season in them.

With the economy at a low point and car buyers looking for new fuel-efficient cars, the Kansas City International Auto Show couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Auto Show, held last week, displayed over 500 varieties of cars in a 600-yard area at the Bartle Hall Convention Center. One of the nice features about the Auto Show is that it gives buyers and casual lookers alike the chance to compare cars without the worry of dealers pressuring them to buy right away.

Unrest in the Middle East has recently pushed gas prices into the range of $3.30 per gallon in the Midwest. It isn’t surprising that most of the cars at the show were focused on improved gas mileage. Some of the cars, like the Ford Fiesta and Chrysler Fiat 500, get about 38 MPG on the highway and 30 in the city.

Unlike previous attempts to produce economical vehicles, automotive manufacturers have produced new economical cars that don’t sacrifice creature comforts. For example, many cars had built-in GPS navigation systems, Sirius radio, heated leather seats and many other high-tech features.

However, these features come with a price. The Chevy Cruze, one of the new fuel-efficient models, has a base price of only $16,000. But, the addition of the creature comforts can easily push the price over $20,000.

There were also many cars that were in the upper class category that gave teens and young adults the chance to daydream about cars they most likely won’t be able to afford for some time. These cars included Porsche, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Volvo models.

Also on display were two new electric car models: the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. These two electric cars are now on the market and can save their owners a lot of money. They are easy to use; all you have to do is plug them in and you’re good to go. The charge isn’t very long on them, 6-8 hours max, but it still saves you money on your daily trip to and from work. Unfortunately, automotive manufacturers aren’t producing many units of the vehicles yet.

Have you ever been downtown and couldn’t find any place to park and had to settle for a spot where you had to parallel park? Well, at the auto show they had a demonstration with a Ford Escort that could parallel park itself. The car showed how quick, simple, and stress free it was for you to do this difficult park. This was one of the most popular demonstrations at the show.

Several classic cars were also on display. Some of the antiques on display included a 1958 Corvette and one of the first Model T’s. They also had a pit crew show you how they used to have to start the old fashion cars with a crank and what a hassle some could be, and how much we can appreciate how easy we can start today’s cars.

The Auto show appealed to all types of people, of a variety of ages. There were tons of people from all stages of life and economic backgrounds at the show. Some people came to look at cars to buy and others just came to look around and have a good time. Whatever their reason for going, the Auto Show seemed to be very popular and was a huge success.

Senior theatre members stepped up to take on Student Directed One-Acts. These four one-acts were presented in the BHS Forum Theatre Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.

The acts were split two and two, with a 15 minute intermission in between. The one-act plays included “Check Please,” written by Jonathan Rand and directed by senior Suzy Replogle, and “Who’s a Good Boy,” written by Anthony Wood and directed by senior Colby Brock. After the intermission, the show continued with “Drugs are Bad,” also written by Jonathan Rand and directed by senior Cat Thomas, and “Wake Up Call,” written by Stephen Gregg and directed by senior Suzy Replogle.

“Check Please” portrayed numerous examples of dates gone bad, in which one person has the other running for the door. The scenes included dates who were obsessive, dates who had multiple personalities and dates who were too young or too old, among a variety of other issues.

The cast included juniors Amber Pope, Ryan Ethridge, Chloe Jackson, Caity Joyce, Lauren Gardner and Shane Houston. This junior cast did a fabulous job with these humorous extreme date situations, portraying the unfortunately wacky possibilities dating presents throughout life. Their over-the-top characters made for a very fun act.

The second one-act, “Who’s a Good Boy,” consisted of a detective golden retriever who, blinded by love, gets tricked while on the search for a poodle’s lost ball. The cast for this performance included senior Colby Brock, junior Beth Kennell and sophomores Mitch Routh, Rusty Phillips and Amber Coultis.

This clever little act only included five characters, all of whom played dogs, and required a very small use of props. Despite the obvious animal character barrier, the students did well at portraying dogs, using dog-like qualities instead of costumes. They also held a good performance despite the lack of added props.

Following intermission, the students performed “Drugs are Bad,” which consisted of a boy and his parents. Throughout the entire play, everything seems ridiculously opposite of today’s norms as the parents encourage their son to take part in “sex, drugs and rock n’ roll,” but the end subtly reveals the parents’ reverse psychology tactics.

Although the cast consisted of only three students-senior Bethany Phillips, junior Josh Allred and sophomore Zach Thomas, they put on a very entertaining show with this unique story. All three students did well getting into their characters and changing their emotions throughout the performance.

The last act of the night was “Wake Up Call,” which was the most intricate one of all. This act jumped back and forth as it followed the main character throughout his dream inside a dream and his struggle to get a grasp on reality.

The cast for this performance included senior Brad Bennett, junior Krista Johnson and sophomores Lara Ware and Rusty Phillips, all of whom brought a very interesting twist to the story with their odd characters. Although the plot was hard to follow and pretty out there, the craziness of it made for a show unlike any other.

These Student Directed One-Acts gave the students an opportunity to show their talents, and they did just that. Once again the theatre department succeeded in impressing the audience.

Over 26 million people watched the 53rd annual Grammy award show on Sunday, Feb.13. “Music’s biggest night” was almost an understatement. Having 3% more viewers, one could speculate that it’s due to the line-up of popular artists such as Eminem, Lady Gaga, Mick Jagger and much more. But as always there are eyebrow raising moments, questionable award winners and outfits that make headline news.

Red Carpets showcase celebrity’s and their fashion choice for the evening. Mostly everyone wants to be the “best dressed” and some don’t care at all. Some do put in a lot of time, effort and money to make themselves look the best. A few celebrities are brave enough to overstep the “norm”.

For instance, Rihanna came in a completely see through dress, somewhat covered by white fluffy strands of fabric wrapped around her body. Also Nicki Minaj wore a head to toe outfit made of Leapored print from a runway designer and wore a hair style very similar to “Bride of Frankenstein”. This next person has always overstepped the norm but she has managed to raise the bar again. Lady GaGa not only came in fashionable designs but also was escorted in a “vessel” resembling an egg to promote her new hit “Born this Way”.

What makes this show great are the performers and the justified awarded artists.

The first performance of the night was a tribute to Aretha Franklin, who is going to be featured in the first women’s rock hall of fame which includes Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson and Florence Welch. The second performance opened up with Lady GaGa and her “vessel” unleashing “a new race of humans…free of prejudices” She performed her record setting hit “Born this Way”, which dominated the itunes store selling 448 thousand copies.

Third was Miranda Lambert tributing to “all the artists who came before us,” with a slide show of great performers such as Elvis, Elton John and Sting, singing “The House That Built Me”. Next up was Muse, performing “Uprising” with video screen effects and “hoodlums” recking havoc on stage. B.o.B and Bruno Mars performed “Nothing on You” and “Grenade” in black and white having a retro feel to the performance, finishing up the performance with Janelle Monae singing “Cold War”. Up after that was Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith performing “Never Say Never” which is on Billboards chart at 33rd, and the closing duet was Usher’s ”OMG”. Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons, and Avett Brothers performed “The Cave” and “Head Full of Doubt”. Lady Antebellum performed their popular song “Need You Now”.

Cee-Lo dressed up as an ape with peacock feathers to perform “Forget You” with Gwyneth Paltrow and the Muppets. Eminem, Rihanna, Skylar Grey, and Dr. Dre performed “I Need a Doctor”. Katy Perry’s “Not Like the Movies” used drapery showing footage of her wedding with Russell Brand, and “Teenage Dream” had the theme of Valentine’s Days. Later Mick Jagger and Barbra Streisand proved they still have the goods to pull off their songs. Rihanna and Drake’s duet brought a burst of youth fullness and somewhat inappropriate fun. Finally after accepting the highly anticipated award Best Album of the Year, Arcade Fire performed “Month of May”, closing the show.

There were 109 awards given out this year at the Grammys.

For a complete list of nominees and winners go to http://www.grammy.com/nominees .

The highlighted awards were Record of the Year and Song of the Year given to Lady Antebellum for Need You Now, Album of the Year went to Arcade of Fire’s The Suburbs, Best New Artist was awarded to Esperanza Spalding causing quite a stir online. In the end Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga, Jeff Beck, David Frost and John Legend won three Grammys each. Overall the 53rd annual Grammy Awards had Red Carpet fashion choices that caused headline news and exciting moments but also questionable award winners that caused quite a controversy for a lot of people.

Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul have left the judging seats of “American Idol” behind. Season 10 has begun and in their place is rock star legend Steven Tyler, from the American rock band Aerosmith, as well as actress and singer Jennifer Lopez. They are more well known by today’s generation for their works off the show than the previous judges.

Who did return from the previous years are Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest. Jackson is back in his judging seat working well with the new additions and Seacrest is still the show’s host.

The tell-it-like-it-is judging style of Cowell left with him. Although comments he made were sometimes rude or irrelevant to the contestant’s singing, he tried to make sure only the truly talented got in. He was the toughest but most honest judge.

Lopez is showing her kind heart as she refuses to tell anyone they just can’t sing and even refuses to say no the majority of the time, even when it needs to be said. Instead, she puts her head down and waits for the other two judges to tell the contestant they didn’t make it to Hollywood. Although she is being kind and trying not to hurt anyone, this is a big part of being a judge and she is not taking on the full job well.

As lead singer of Aerosmith and as a musician and songwriter, Tyler has been acknowledged as a legend and a star for years and is having no trouble being the star judge this year. From his moments of making music with the contestants and jokes to his wise words and praises, he is easily the greatest addition to the show.

Even with new faces, many moments are dull. Little words of further encouragement are being given. Unless being told they did good, contestants aren’t getting much feedback from their new cast of judges this year.

Cowell was a big part of “American Idol” and it is hard to watch it go on without him. He almost always had something to say and it was more meaningful if he said yes than if any of the other judges did because he didn’t pass out yeses to just anyone or quite as easily as the rest did.

Although “American Idol” has given many dreams hope, it’s hard to imagine this show being popular for many more seasons. It’s just not as entertaining anymore.

On it’s way to Hollywood, “American Idol” has shown what talents appeared from Los Angeles and New Orleans. In New Orleans, Jackson got to reunite with his old football coach before the previous coach’s niece, Jacquelyn Dupree, auditioned. She made it through to Hollywood.

Like every year, there are the individuals considered great who awe the judges. There are many that were good, many others that were bad and, of course, the “why are you on this show?” individuals who seamed oblivious to their own voices.

Auditions are close to an end and soon the ones who received two or three yeses from the judges will get a chance in Hollywood to become the next American Idol.

Many of the contestants who have appeared and gone through are young- teens of the ages fifteen and sixteen. There are more than the previous seasons had. “American Idol” has never had such a young winner before, but will it be the same fate for these many young talents going through to Hollywood this year?

Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8/7c, “American Idol” can be seen from Fox channel.

“Fiddler” is set in Russia and focuses on the Jewish group and even more so on Tevye and his daughters who are of age to marry and tradition falling to the times.

The Russian town in which they live is divided between the Jews and Orthodox Christians and the Jews are not strongly supported nor very welcomed.

Tevye (senior Kyron Woods) is a poor, Jewish, milkman who tries to rely on the traditions of his peoples’ way during a time of great hardships. His three eldest daughters are each finding love in someone and asking their father to forget about the traditions and to let them be wed to whom they have chosen.

Tzeitel (senior Suzy Repogle), the eldest daughter, wishes to be married to her life long friend, Motel (junior Ryan Ethridge). Motel is a tailor with little money and would naturally be seen as no beneficial husband to Tzeitel’s parents. To approve their marriage, Tevye would have to go back on his promise to a more wealthier man, Lazar Wolfe (senior Colby Brock), who has asked for Tzeitel to be married to him. Approving of a husband chosen by the daughter is also not of the Jewish way.

Hodel (senior Andy Repogle), the next daughter in line to be married, has found love in Perchik (sophomore Zack Thomas). He’s a college student with different ideas in politics than the usual Jew. Perchik is known for breaking some Jewish traditions and it’s no different when he asks Hodel to marry him without asking Tevye first.

Chava (junior Caitlyn Joyce), another of Tevye’s daughters, found love in Fyedka (sophomore Mitch Routh) who isn’t Jewish. To ask her father to approve of this marriage would be asking him to go against their Jewish ways in a completely different way.

Other parts include the mother, played by senior Shannon Armond, the matchmaker played by senior Bethany Phillips and the rabbi who is played by junior Josh Allred.

Multiple band members were also chosen to play the music used throughout the play. Their performance in the pit was of great importance and a great add to the quality. Their time and effort payed off.

Much talent was shown on the stage by the large group of thespians. This includes : Andy Repogle, who continued to sing well even though she was loosing her voice, Allred, who brought out much laughter in the audience with his elder rabbi character, the shocking performance done by Routh who hasn’t been heard singing on the stage before and everyone else who took part and shined on the stage with their singing and acting talents.

Some mistakes were made during the play but it had little effect on the over all performance and their long hours of hard work payed off. “Fiddler” was one of their most enjoyable performances and was a great start to the new year.

After two successful shows, BHS has yet another play the theatre department will present that will open in late April. The famous play, “Barefoot in the Park”, which has also been made into a movie, is an all Freshman play, but if done right could be just as good as the others. The play will also be double casted, giving students a better chance of getting a role in the small cast.

Freshman Lara Ware, who was casted as the main character, Corrie, says she is looking forward to the production, even though she doesn’t quite know what it is about yet.

“Even though I haven’t read the script, I’m so excited,” Ware said.

The play focuses on a newlywed couple who, at first, seem madly in love. Then the problems of married life come up and they begin having difficulties. The couple deal with everything from money to a crazy man in the attic, and everything in between. The play is very entertaining but will require hard work on every ones part if it is to be a success.

Since this is their first experience with theatre, many of the freshmen will have to be taught how to use things such as drills and the sound and light board, depending on which crew they are assigned. Because they will need someone to guide them, Director Joshua Turk, who teaches acting and Contest Speech classes at the Freshman Center, has given upperclassmen crew head positions that will give them the chance to teach the freshmen everything they need to know about producing a successful show.

Sophomore and props crew head Kaylee Winer said that it is up to the crew heads to make sure the freshman are taught how to do things behind the scenes so they will be prepared next year for the all high school shows.

“We are working with new kids who are inexperienced in theatre so the pressure is on us to mentor them to make sure the show is good,” Winer said.

Although much of the cast and crew are new to the theatre department, many have been in the previous shows including the fall musical and winter play, among others, which will lighten the load for the crew heads.

Nonetheless, the play will require hard work on everyone’s part, especially the new actors. Although auditions were very nerve wracking, in the end the cast turned out to be a good mix of new and old theatre goers. The cast will begin practice today, and the show will be presented in late April and early May. The production is sure to be great, because all the participants are dedicated and excited to be a part of a group that loves the same thing they do: theatre.

The much anticipated release of the fourth Halo video game, Halo 3: ODST hit the market Sept 22. It puts a new twist on the Halo series and has many people excited.

ODST follows the stories of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, which is a very different take on the way Halo used to be played. The old Halo games were played from the view point of a Spartan. This meant players could take large amounts of damage before being killed.

The story is based in the same time period as Halo 3. Gamers will notice immediate differences in the gameplay, but it still maintains the feel of the old school game. The storyline is based around a nameless character that searches around an abandoned city for his comrades. Upon finding clues to the fate of his squadron, the player relives flashbacks that advance the campaign.

As soon as the game starts the sense that it is just like any other Halo arises, but once you start playing, the differences come glaring out. With the change of being an ODST instead of a Spartan there is no longer a shield and the ability of dual-wielding guns have been removed. This makes ODST much harder than any other of its counterparts. The Brutes and Covenants are back to die at your will just as they were in Halo 3.

A big flaw that was found in the game is the fact that the online multiplayer is the exact same as Halo 3. Gamers get the same rank and even play against other people playing Halo 3. One main incentive for purchasing ODST is that it includes all 24 maps in matchmaking.

There is a new play mode called Firefight which puts gamers and their friends against endless hordes of aliens that test the player’s skill. This is the best new part of the Halo series. However, it was almost copied straight from Gears of War 2′s Horde Mode.

Owners of Halo 3 should not buy ODST. The lack of new multiplayer and moderate changes to a weak campaign does not create enough entertainment to be worth $60. However, people who aren’t owners of Halo 3 should consider this title.

Entertainment giant Apple recently anounced their new Ipod lineup for 2009 which will include new iterations of the Ipod Nano, Shuffle, Classic and Touch. Though this year is full of smaller changes, the modifications to the functions and price points are sure to interest consumers.

The Ipod with the most functionality is currently the Ipod Touch, with thousands of applications available for download through Itunes. This year Apple brings 8GB, 32GB and 64GB versions of the Touch to the table. The prices are set at $199, $299 and $399 respectively. The 32GB and 64GB versions come equipped with a faster processor for faster internet and more advanced apps.

The Ipod Nano has undergone the most changes this year by adding a camera capable of capturing video and still images. There is also a built-in pedometer that can count the amount of steps taken throughout the day. In a strange move, Apple also decided to add a radio to the Nano, making it the first Ipod ever to have one.

The new Nano increases the screen size to 2.2 inches compared to last year’s 2 inches. At those small sizes, an extra .2 inches can make a huge difference. The exterior is a shiny aluminum that is available in 9 different colors. Sizes include 8GB for $149 and 16GB for $179.

Models with the least changes are the Classic and the Shuffle. True to it’s name, the classic is now on it’s 6th iteration with the main attraction being the gargantuan storage capacity and old-school feel. The Classic is available in one size, 160GB,q and costs $250.

The Shuffle is now available only in a 2GB format for $59 and a 4GB format for $79. There are no changes to the design, so it still has no buttons and is still the size of a lighter. For controls there are three buttons on the earphone wire to change the volume or pause the song.

On the software side, Itunes has been upgraded to Itunes 8. The update mainly improves on functionality and useability.

With such a wide range of Ipods available on the market, it shouldn’t be hard to find a new media player this fall.
