“John Lennon and Me,” starring sophomores Lauren Gardner, Nate Ulmo and Chloe Jackson, brought tears to many in its audience. They put on a good show with romance, tragedy and friendship.

“John Lennon and Me” was set in a children’s hospital called Heart House and was told from the view point of Gardner’s character, “Star.”

Star is a 15 year old girl who has spent most of her life in Heart House and is diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.  This disease is usually fatal and makes it rare for victims to live past the age of 25. Star is a fighter who desires to become an actress and refuses to believe her disease will kill her.

Courtney, played by Jackson, is a cheerleader who arrives in Heart House with a major fever that is weakening her heart. In the start of the play, Courtney is afraid of kids with major diseases and thinks they are not normal.

Throughout the play, Star continuously fabricated stories to enhance Courtney’s view of her, causing her to believe, among other things, that she wasn’t very ill and was dating the boy in room 2B. In truth, Star and the boy in 2B had never met before.

The boy in 2B is Jeff (Nate Ulmo), a 17 year old who is in Heart House because he can’t sleep. Jeff doesn’t leave his room often and likes to be alone. Star reminds him of his little sister though, and he is determined to help her.

Star’s lies begin to unfold; friendships are gained and both Courtney and Star gradually made immense character developments.

The actors were faced with technical problems during their first night’s performance. During one of the scenes, it was planned that the theatre projection screen would be lowered and a short clip would be shown. But the DVD player being used would not read their disk. This lead to Gardner and Ulmo improvising on the scene and acting out the clip.

Overall, the story was good and the actors were successful in being their character. Their hard work was well paid-off.
