The internet grows all the time. As a result there are various things that it can offer to people from many different backgrounds. People go the the internet for information, social-networking, and more recently–they go to the internet for dating. Online dating is becoming increasingly popular for people of all genders, ages and races.

What’s wrong with the old-fashioned way of dating? People seem to be more comfortable with online dating because there is a certain lack of identity. Of course online dating services have guidelines and rules, and people can choose what they want their potential soul mate to know about them. No one will list all the bad qualities they have when they are looking for the attention of the opposite sex. With online dating people don’t always know what they’re going to get. It can definitely become dangerous if they don’t know what they’re getting themselves into.

According to articlebase.com, about 40 million Americans use online dating services. The online dating industry makes millions of dollars each year just to match up potential mates. People use online dating because it is difficult to meet someone at work or at a hangout spot. Some work places have a no-date policy and a lot of older individuals don’t like going out. So, finding someone to date can actually be hard to do.

Another point that is argued is that online dating is dangerous. Online dating can be dangerous because people don’t completely know the person they’re going to meet. They know what the profile picture looks like and they know a little bit about the person they will meet. However, they don’t know if this person would hurt them or if they made up everything they put on their account.

Most individuals that participate in online dating started because they couldn’t find what they wanted elsewhere, in society. This increases their chances of developing a relationship that doesn’t mean anything. Online dating also lacks sentimental value and a meaning to the relationship. The story about when the couple met won’t be as special because they didn’t know each other on their first date.

Online dating is increasing in popularity and it has its pros and cons. However, the cons definitely out-weigh the pros in this situation. There should be more guidelines and online dating services should make sure that everything their clients are reading is true. The old way of dating is the best and safest way to date and for people to find who they want to be with.
