Going green costs the green

Lately it seems like you can’t turn on the T.V. without seeing something promoting ‘going green.’ Stores have recyclable bags, and sell light bulbs that can save thousands of dollars on the electric bill, even washing machines that use less water and energy.
All of it’s main selling point is saving you money. Here’s the catch, they charge ridiculous amounts of money to save the planet.
To buy a normal 75-watt light bulb it cost normally about a dollar, but if you want to ‘save money’ by buying the energy saving bulbs they charge you about four dollars. Why would people who are trying to save money spend an extra three dollars? They want to see the savings now.
At grocery stores they offer the option of having ‘green’ bags. But they charge you a dollar a bag, and like suggested earlier, people who are pinching pennies aren’t going to pay a dollar for something to just move their groceries from the car to the kitchen.
Then, there are those energy-saving appliances. They claim to save you money, around a hundred a year, and they probably do. The thing is they charge you more then the regular plain Jane appliances.
If what the Earth needs to be healthier is out there, then why are companies making it so hard for people to get a hold of and start using these energy saving techniques? Do they really care more about the money in their pockets more than the Earth that essentially provides the products to make them rich?
The point is, the technology and resources are out there to start making this earth a better place for the future generations to live in, and they are making it harder to obtain than the things that started ruining the planet in the first place. Hopefully it will be just like any new technology, when it first come out it’s sure expensive; like the iPad or latest Blackberry, and then after they’ve come out with something newer and cooler, it becomes a little more cheaper.
If people want the earth to be in the same condition, if not better, in the future, then take the initiative and get the companies to make energy efficiency, more efficient.
