On Sept. 10, the girls tennis team faced off against Lee’s Summit West. They played pro-ten games. In this type of game, each of the six varsity girls played ten matches which is one game. Then they played three doubles games, total.

Coach Liz Hunsaker said that the oppostion was difficult.

“Their game was very solid,” Hunsaker said. “And we will get to play them again, later.”

The team lost 9-0 at the game, which means no one won more than half of their matches in any game. Although LSW was a hard team to play against, Hunsaker said the Belton team is getting better, slowly.

“They are slowly getting well,” Hunsaker said. “Injuries are getting better. They are starting to play more like they should. And the JV team is stepping it up.”

In this game, senior Michelle Tuttle played for her first time in the top position.

“Playing as number one isn’t much different,” Tuttle said. “But I felt like I had more pressure to do better.”
Although none of the girls won their games, junior Sarah Gelencher won five out of her ten matches. She said she was feeling pretty good about her game.

“LSW was hardcore,” Gelencher said, “but I had a good day. I had a Tech 9 song in my head, which is important, and I did my best to keep up with my opponent.”
