The Lady Pirates’ softball team added another victory to their record after a grueling game against the Liberty Blue Jays. The team went through an 18 inning game, estimated at three hour and 40 minute game. Which is almost the approximate length of two seven inning games.

The lady pirates managed to get ahead at the top of the 7th inning, but since the Blue Jays were home they had a chance at bat and were able to get a run to tie it up. After hours of playing, the lady pirates were able to hold off Liberty until they were able to score the final run which won them the game.

In the 18th inning, senior Alex King was able to get on base. She advanced because of a hit by junior Carly Scott and was finally hit in by senior Ashley Colbern. Sophomore Kelsey Schifferdecker set a record for the most consecutive innings pitched in one game, 18.

The team had some close calls as well. During one inning, Liberty had the bases loaded and the lady pirates with no outs. They were able to get the three outs without allowing any runs.

The final score of the game was 5-4, Belton, setting a good start to the week. The team’s previous game was cancelled due to rain, but they still have two games left to face for the week.

HaHa! Sounds like our softball may give Blue Springs a run for their money later on.
