Senior Night for softball players occured on Monday Oct. 5, with 5 seniors playing in their final home game. Varsity spread Grandview in the 3 inning game, 15-0.  Senior Ashley Cobern pitched a no-hitter.

Cobern gave up just 2 walks, and 1 batter reached on an error. Cobern also had 2 hits to contribute to the Lady Pirate’s offense.

Senior Melissa Barnes Batted 3 times, scoring each at-bat.  The last score was an inside-the-park home run off of a line drive deep into center field.  Senior Jennifer Harrington had 3 RBIs in the final home game, and scored 1 run.

Coach Jeff Davis said that the seniors are a great group of kids, and that they are a big part of Belton’s winning season.

“The Seniors are the nucleus of what has happened this year,” Davis said.  “They’re good kids, and we’re going to miss them.”

The seniors have greatly contributed to the past few seasons, having 24 wins last season and 22 wins so far this season. Varsity is now on their way to districts to play Warrensburg in the first roud.

If they can win in Districts, they move on to Sectionals, Quartefinals, Semifinals and then State.  The Lady Pirates won districts last year, then lost in the sectionals round.

After the game, parents were invited to join the team for cake and cookies.  Players started a cake fight, and Barnes ended up putting cake in the coach’s faces.
