Belton lost the third place game in the Ray-Pec tournament to Pleasant Hill, 49-34.  Senior Ryan Schmidt was the Pirates’ top scorer with 10 points.

The Pirates had high hopes for this game, it was a game that Belton expected to win.  The game stayed close in the first half, with the score ending up 16-11 in favor of Pleasant Hill.

Head Coach Greg Martin said that the pirates put in a lot of effort, but they just couldn’t execute when they needed it, their shots just wouldn’t fall.

“This game was very disappointing,” Martin said.  “It may be the most disappointing loss I’ve had at Belton.”

Pleasant Hill definitely executed, they ran their plays well and the shots seemed to fall no matter where they were on the court.

The Pirates were able to score more in the second half, totalling 22 points, but the defense couldn’t stop Pleasant Hill.  The Roosters started to hit three point shots late in the game, which allowed to start pulling away and widen the lead.

In the end, the Pirates just couldn’t hold off the roosters as they suffered their fifth straight loss.

The Pirates are still looking for their first win of the season, and hope to get a win in the next week, when they play Raytown South on Monday at home, and then travel to Lee’s Summit West on Wednesday.

With just two games before the break, the Pirates want to improve their skills and go into the second half of the season strong, and show other their opponents what they’re made of.
