With the Spring season just around the corner, the Pirates baseball team is preparing for a spectacular season. The Pirates finished last year with 11 wins and 12 losses, which they are hoping to greatly improve on.

Belton is looking to a few key games against the Fort Osage Indians and the Lee’s Summit West Titans, two of the better teams in the Conference.

During practices, the Pirates are working on a number of different drills, from hitting to fielding to base running.

“We are really going to be focusing on our base running and situational hitting in the preseason,” Head Coach George Shrum said.

Senior Cole Horn said that he hopes to win the Conference and do well in Districts. This will be Horn’s final season with the Belton Pirates.

“I’m a little sad,” said Horn, “but I’m also ready to get out.”

Senior Ryan Clark said that he is excited for the season, and hopes the Pirates have a winning record.

“I’m really looking forward to the Sprinfield Tournament this season,” Clark said.

The Pirates have 10 returning varsity players, including Seniors Cole Horn, Jake Jones, Skyler Hibdon, Nick Livingston, and Ryan Clark.

The Pirates are practicing everyday after school, at the Freshman Center fields. They are working towards playing their first game of the season in the Varsity Tournament at Legacy Park in Lee’s Summit.
