The 2010 NHL playoffs are coming to a close, and two teams are looking to come out on top. The Chicago Blackhawks, who just won the Western Conference finals, and the Philadelphia Flyers, who are up two games to one against the Montreal Canadians, who are dominating the 2010 postseason.
Chicago has been one of the best teams in the league throughout the season, in part to the addition of former Red Wing and perennial all star, Marian Hossa. The Blackhawks just closed out the series versus the San Jose Sharks in just four games, which puts them in the Stanley Cup Final.
Jonathan Toews has been on fire for the Blackhawks throughout the postseason, scoring seven goals and eighteen assists. Toews has been the offensive powerhouse to back up Finnish goalie, Antti Niemi on the defensive side.
Niemi has been one of the top goalies throughout the 2010 season, and has continued his success into the postseason, allowing just 2.35 goals a game, and a save percentage of 92%.
Chicago is going into their first Stanley Cup Final since 1992, and if they can win the seven game series, it will be their first Stanley Cup victory since 1961.
The Philadelphia Flyers have a three game to one advantage over the Montreal Canadians in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Flyers were red hot entering the third game of the series, having scored 11 unanswered points, when the Canadians came back to win five to one in game three.
Unlike the Western Conference Finals, which was a match up between the two best teams in the conference, the Eastern Conference Finals is between the last two teams to make it into the playoffs. The Canadians have been able to make it past Eastern Conference powerhouses like the Washington Capitals, led by Alexander Ovechkin, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, led by Sidney Crosby.
The Flyers’ goalie, Michael Leighton has been spectacular throughout the 2010 playoffs, allowing 1.37 goals a game, and has a save percentage of 95%.
The Flyers are looking to close out the series against the Canadians Monday, which will put them in the Finals with the Blackhawks, and give them a shot at the Stanley Cup.
