Belton said goodbye to three of their star performers after they signed the papers to attend college this fall.

Callie Porter, David Hurley, and Jake Jones are the three seniors that attended. Glendal Whitney was also invited but could not make it to the ceremony.

Callie Porter received a scholarship to Park University for her outstanding high school career in golf but she will also miss the high school life. Porter went to state in golf multiple years and will continue her success in golf at Park University.

“The thing I am going to miss most about high school is being around all of my friends and having great teachers that know a lot about you,” Porter said.

David Hurley is going to attend Missouri Valley to play football after he had a great career in high school with coach Keeton and the rest of the Belton Pirates football team. David Hurley played full back and tight end for the pirates football team.

“I chose Missouri Valley because it is a good school, it’s small, and it is close to home,” Hurley said.

Former Pirates pitcher and quarterback Jake Jones is going to attend Truman University to play football and baseball. He proved he had what it takes to be a good pitcher in college when he pitched 9 innings and earned 8 strikeouts.

Cole Horn was also a member of the baseball team and will be attending Ottawa University to play for the Braves baseball team and continue his career.

Glendal Whitney was a member of the Pirates football team and wrestling team. He will be missed a lot next year in both sports because of how dedicated he was to each sport. He went to State in Wrestling three years in a row, Whitney placed third at state in 2008, won state in 2009 and placed second at state in 2010. He was also one of Belton’s elite running backs and was hard to stop on the field as he was able to run for over 100 yards in every game last season.

We wish these athletes the best of luck in college and hope they can keep up there success both in the classrooms and on the field.
