Belton High school has four new foreign exchange students this year. These students have traveled a very long way to spend the school year at Belton High. These exchange students have traveled from Norway, Germany, and Sweden.
Every year Belton receives at least one exchange student but this year has been given four. Senior Stian Lockert, Senior Ina Mutscher, Senior Bach “Bino” Nguyen-Ngoc, and Senior Elin Ohman have all traveled from their respected countries.

All foreign exchange students can participate in athletics and activities. They all are seniors so they can participate in prom and graduation. While they are here they have the chance to learn the American culture and lifestyle through the friendships they make with the local kids.

Lockert is from Norway and participates in many things around the school. Lockert plays varsity soccer and wants to try football, baseball, and tennis. Lockert said he has been very social and really enjoys the people around the school.

“I really like the girls, the people, and of course Coach Mannell,” Lockert said.

Lockert has enjoyed much of America and the new possibilities to learn and meet new people. He said that all the possibilities to meet new people and learn is one of his favorite parts of America. Stian lives with Yeokum teacher Bruce Erickson and another exchange student, Bach “Bino” Nguyen-Ngoc.

Nguyen-Ngoc prefers the nickname “Bino”. He has traveled from Germany to spend the school year with us. Nguyen-Ngoc plays soccer, golf, tennis, and wants to try baseball. Nguyen-Ngoc said he really likes the school spirit and soccer team. He also doesn’t mind the change in food.

“The fast food is really good and big,” Nguyen-Ngoc said.

Another German exchange student at Belton this year is Ina Mutscher. Mutscher is a member of in French Club. Along with French club she participates in Pep club and plans on playing girls soccer. Ina enjoys many things around Belton High school.

“I really like the high school spirit and American culture,” Mutscher said.

The last exchange student is the Elin Ohman. Ohman traveled from Sweden. She is very active around the school and participates in Tennis, Soccer, GAPS, and Woman’s choir. Ohman said she also likes the school spirit and American culture.

All the students enjoy America but it was unanimous throughout that there was one major flaw in American society. The transportation does not meet their needs.

“I can’t walk anywhere,” Lockert said.

Nguyen-Ngoc said he has been displeased with the transportation

“The public transportation is my least favorite part of America,” Nguyen- Ngoc said.

Ohman said in Sweden you can walk everywhere but in America it is much different.

“You have to take a car everywhere,” Ohman said.

Enjoy the time that these students are here because they leave after graduation.

I enjoyed reading the story about the exchange students It was well-written and easy to read. Thanks for giving them a little “exposure.”

Great story about our foreign exchange students. I have the privilege of being the coordinator for Bino, Stian and Elin. They are wonderful kids.
