Students waited in anticipation for those simple words to float across the bottom of the TV screen on Wednesday morning. When Belton School District 124 showed up, many students were ecstatic for the first snow day of the school year, especially since there wasn’t even a large amount of snow.
Sophomore Matt Loughner said that he was so happy, he had to do a dance.
“I was so excited, I was practically skipping around my house!” Loughner said.
Many students said the best part of the day was being able to sleep in, while others were more excited to go sledding or hang out with friends.
Sophomore Trevor Peery enjoyed a day with his friends that started very early in the morning. They went to the community center to swim and hung out together nearly all day.
Although many of the students enjoyed a day off and looked forward to it, some high school students were upset about the day off since it would mean missing another gold day before break, or simply because they had nothing to do.
Senior Dalton Jones said that the snow day was a waste of his time.
“Josh Holloway wasted my snow day,” Jones said of the boring day.
Sophomore Jessica Martin said she was disappointed when she heard there would be a snow day because her classes would be packed with information and things to do for the next week and a half.
“I don’t want there to be snow day,” Martin said. ”Then all my classes will be crammed!” Martin said the day before the fateful news.
This setback was also upsetting to other students who are taking tough classes and need as much time as possible to review.
Because of the snow day, there were also cancellations for important events, such as the showing of “Bobby Wilson can Eat His Own Face,” which was scheduled to be performed at seven o’clock.
Nevertheless, the snow day was a nice day off for the majority of students, and with more chances of snow in the following weeks, it wouldn’t be a surprise if another snow day is on the way.
