With Valentine’s Day coming up quickly, many students are discussing their opinions about the holiday. Valentine’s Day is the type of holiday that some students love, others hate, and even that is seen as just another holiday. Some students said they think Valentine’s Day is just another excuse to buy loved ones expensive gifts, while others said they enjoy the extra opportunity to hand out cards or even buy gifts for that special someone. Some students, however, like not having the obligation to buy any gifts for friends or family.

Sophomore Josh Allred said he enjoys Valentine’s Day because love is everywhere and also because he said he enjoys handing out Valentine’s gifts to all of his friends. Allred also said he doesn’t care if he doesn’t get any gifts for Valentine’s Day.

“I think Valentine’s Day is a great day to show love,” Allred said. “People will find that ’special someone’ someday, so I love myself enough to not care about not getting any gifts on Valentine’s Day.”

Other students, such as Sophomore Jennifer Groves, said that they enjoy Valentine’s Day because of all the candy they receive from close friends.

“I love Valentine’s Day because I get to eat lots of yummy chocolate,” Groves said.

Some students, on the other hand, said they think Valentine’s Day is an excuse to buy expensive things for loved ones. Sophomore Luke Pierce said he thinks girls expect expensive things for Valentine’s Day. Pierce also said that he enjoys not having to worry about the pressure of buying a gift for a girlfriend.

“I like not having a girlfriend for Valentine’s Day because it means that I don’t have to spend money buying her expensive gifts,” Pierce said. “It’s just another day. Girls make too much of a deal about Valentine’s Day.”

Either way, Valentine’s Day can be an infectious holiday that people love or hate. Some like to give chocolates, others like to give cards just to show the people close to them that they care. However, in the end, some students at BHS will still catch the “love bug” this Valentine’s Day.
