Kyron Woods displays his many talents

In high school, some students tend to find one niche and stick with it, while others explore. In Junior Kyron Woods’ case, he was the one that explored. He is a rising star in the BHS Theatre Department and is a man of many talents. In the junior year of Woods’ high school career he has come into his own after making some hard choices.

From his grade school days, like many boys, Woods was involved in sports. However, up until his sophomore year his love for football was pinned up against his curious nature. Despite his opportunity to play varsity football he was torn with the decision he was to make. But after talking it out with his parents and his coach Kyron was headed for the stage.

“I was thinking how cool it would be to be an actor,” Woods said. “It was on of the hardest decisions I had to make but I wanted to do something different.”

Last years was his first year in theatre, and after paying his dues he is a full fledged Thespian. In the Fall musical HONK! Woods earned himself key dual rolls in the musical. Now in the Winter play Woods is testing his hand at directing as the assistant director for the play ‘John Lennon and Me’ opening Feb. 11. Woods has found that he can give his creative opinion in the theatre and is eager to see how it all goes.

Director Tabatha Babcock describes Woods as a ‘man of many talents’ that fits the role of a director.

“He tends not to take things too serious,” Babcock said. “He showed a lot of interest in directing in Company class and he also showed the skill.”

Woods is also involved in choir at BHS and is in both audition choirs Concert Choir and Belton Singers. Being involved in choir since the fourth grade Woods has had his share of success. In his sophomore year he was one of only two BHS students to be selected for the All-District Choir, but was unable to audition for the All-State choir because he was a sophomore.

Woods has also rubbed elbows with success when performing in a group and hopes to see success again this year.

“Last year my quartet got a one rating at state and after being reinstated for another year we are looking to do the same this March,” Woods said.

Choir Director Brian Stuck likes to have Woods in his classes and enjoys his character.

“I like having him in class because he really enjoys the arts. He contributes a lot and also goes beyond what is expected,” Stuck said.

With an array of talents Kyron Woods still strives to broaden his horizons and look for new opportunities.

“I wanted to be the guy that said ‘I tried that’ and not the guy that said ‘I wish I would have,’” Woods said

The one thing that Woods takes from his last three years in high school is not to be afraid to try new things.

    Zac,
Enjoyed your article on Kyron. I hope there are plans for a follow up article following the completion of the play and the results of choir competition.
