Thespians enjoyed two days of fun with fellow theatre lovers on Feb. 26 and 27 with one-acts, a lock-in, and a pancake breakfast fundraiser.
Following the three one-acts that were presented on Friday night, which were directed by Dylan Corlee, Matt Caddell, and Gabby Deaton, thespians experienced a night of wholesome fun through a lock-in at the high school.
To start off the night, students participated in an instant costume challenge. After choosing teams, the groups had 15 minutes to create their assigned costume using minimal items, including trash bags, duct tape, and aluminum foil, among other materials. When the time was up, each group was given a chance to explain their costume, whether it was a ninja, witch, or geisha.
Senior Matt Caddell, in all his excitement, was awed at what he could do with the scarce materials.
“I made a mermaid,” Caddell said.
When the winner was chosen, each group was then given a video camera and told their next assignment, which was to make a movie that included their given character and genre. The teams had just one hour to make the films, which included credits, and afterwards, each team was able to watch the often hilarious videos.
At midnight, after changing into their comfy PJ’s, the thespians were able to do less structured things. From midnight to six o’ clock in the morning, many games were played, including a four hour round of the popular and addictive game Apples to Apples. While some played Guitar Hero, watch movies, or made up games, such as the ever popular “Call of Idiots”, others had a designated room to get their much needed rest, unlike those who pulled all-nighters.
To stay up, large quantities of food were eaten, including energy drinks and sugary desserts, which brought out the craziest sides of individuals. In Sophomore Nate Ulmo’s opinion, the night was amazing, whether they were acting out of the ordinary or not.
“It was a rambunctious, insane spectacle of how cool we are,” Ulmo said of the fun night.
In the morning, the students loaded their cars and headed toward Applebee’s, where the pancake breakfast was to be held. Although tired and sometimes regretting staying up all night, the thespians put on their best smiling faces when serving customers their pancakes and dancing with posters to wave in customers on the curb of 58 highway.
Finally, when the pancake breakfast ended and customers had cleared out, students were able to take off to their homes for a nap. Even though many crashed at home, most didn’t regret it one bit. The night was unforgettable and fun, with many pictures and videos to prove it.
Junior Andi Replogle said the night was wacky, but they all strengthened their bond and grew closer together as an organization.
“It was a crazy night but we got a lot closer to our theatre family”, said Replogle.
In the end, the hours of staying up were worth it. Thespians became closer and formed the type of inside jokes and games that make best friends. And most of all, it was a time to spend with each other, away from everything else, to just have some fun.

Go Thespians!
