This year Belton High School had four exchange students; Bino and Ina from Germany, Stian from Norway and Elin from Sweden.
The students have mixed feelings about going back to their home countries soon.
Bino Nyguen-Noc said, “I really like the people here. But I’m also a little looking forward to go home because my friends and family in Germany.”
Right now they might be a little homesick and want to be with their friends, but after a while back home they will be missing their American life.
“The best of the High School here was the sports. I like how quickly everybody becomes a team and tries to help the teammates and motivate them,” Elin Ohman said.
Every exchange student agreed that the High School spirit is something really special that none of the exchange students ever experienced. Normally in Europe students go to school and then afterwards they go to clubs to play sports. Often times they are less involved with the their peers and teachers.
The fact that Bino and Stian are leaving 10 days after Graduation brings about sad feelings for them both.
Stian Lockert has mixed feelings about going home. He said, he is looking forward to see everybody again. On the other hand, Stian met so many good people in the United States and has found so many new friends.
“The things I’m going to miss most are the dances and being able to take life easy. I had a really good season at soccer and I’ll miss having practice and the games,” Lockert said.
Ina Mutscher said she was going to miss the high school feeling here and that the year went by like it was nothing.
“It does not really feel like a year for me. The time flew by so fast in the second semester,” Mutscher said, “At the beginning time goes by pretty slowly, but then when you get more involved it goes so fast.”
Nyguen-Noc said that he is sad that he is almost done with school and is sad to see his friends go off to college.
“It is sad that we are almost done with school, because a lot of my friends are Seniors and they will go to College next year which means they will be all over the U.S so if I want to come back it would be difficult.”
In retrospect it was a great year for everybody and wonderful to experience the cultural differences.
