Seniors prepare for graduation

With the last day of school for seniors coming soon, they are catching a bad case of Senioritis if they hadn’t already. With the countdown to the end of their high school career in the single digits, some students have begun to feel animosity towards Belton High School, as well as underclassmen and teachers.

Senior Martika Gravette is through with her high school life and is anxious to get out of it.

“I’m just over with high school. I’m done,” Gravette said.

Many students are looking forward to entering the “real world” and can’t wait for that final bell to ring on their last day. The seniors are faced with the difficult choices and opportunities that lie ahead in college such as living on their own without relying on parents to tell them right from wrong and getting a job.

Senior Angel Lucuano expressed that she was ready for high school to end because she gladly awaits the opportunities she’ll have in the future.

“When high school is over, I’ll be able to start my life,” Lucuano said.

Senior Cameshia Tiebout said that she is eager to move on from BHS as well.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m just ready to graduate,” Tiebout said.

Even though seniors are impatiently waiting for May 15, graduation day, they are feeling some nostalgia for the memories they’re leaving here at BHS. Seniors will be leaving behind friends, family, and their high school for a completely different life miles away, involving brand new peers, teachers, and friends.

In the meanwhile, students are slacking in some of their classes, using the excuse that they’ll be “out of here in a week” for their out of character behavior. This year, students run the risk of not having a class picnic because of the rumored skip day that was planned for May 7. The picnic is essentially a skip day in itself and has become a BHS tradition.

As the senior class prepares for their departure from BHS, they are having mixed feelings towards graduation day. Although they may take on a new school mascot, such as a tiger or a jay hawk, perhaps students will live up to the Alma Mater and stay noble until they are old to the school that has given them the knowledge they need to succeed in life beyond high school.
