Underclassmen suffer senior withdraw

It’s the end of the school year and the seniors are gone. The echo of motorbikes have faded, hallways are like ghost-towns and classes are only half full.

With only the sophomores and juniors here to keep the teachers busy the rest of the year is going to be slow going. Not only are a third of the schools students missing, but for these last few days, there is not much to do besides EOCs and finals.

A lot of underclassmen are feeling the absence of the long gone seniors. Junior Chelsea Nugent said she misses the seniors because most of her friends were seniors.

“Since they graduated I don’t see them nearly as often as I used to,” Nugent said. “The classes I had are really lonely now with just several juniors and a couple sophomores. I really miss Addy Kerr and Ashley Thompson from my childcare class, that class lost a lot of students after graduation.”

Classes like CCP, band, choir, newspaper, yearbook, and pretty much everything else that wasn’t a core class had at least a few seniors so many class rooms are feeling the loss.

Junior Rebecca Jordan, who is now editor of the yearbook with Heather Yablonosky, said she really misses all the seniors that were on yearbook staff.

“I’m really sad that the seniors are gone,” Jordan said. “I really miss Melenie and Michelle. I remember they used to make animal noises and they just generally made the class more entertaining.”

However there are pros and cons to the missing seniors. For instance the hallways are a little less crowded and the lunch lines don’t take as long to get through. Junior Erin Kauser said that there are good things and bad things to the seniors being gone.

“It’s bad that the seniors are gone because I lost a lot of my friends,” Kauser said. “However I do enjoy the fact that I’m basically a senior now.”

Jordan said she also agreed about there being two sides to the seniors being gone.

“I like the fact that Heather and I got to take over editing for Melenie and Michelle, but they made the class fun and it just wont be the same without them,” Jordan said.

Although the seniors are gone and students are feeling the empty space, they will always be remembered, and not just because they ran a pair of motorbikes down the hall.
